Sr. M. Bruna Stahr of the Holy Mother Clare

(March 30, 1929 – March 31, 2022)

Sr. Bruna was born in Kaldorf near Eichstätt on March 30, 1929, the fourth child of parents Xaver and Walburga Stahr (née Margraf).
On April 1, 1929, she was baptized in the parish church in Kaldorf and given the name Walburga.
She was confirmed on May 30, 1939 in the cathedral of Eichstätt.
From 1935 to 1943, she attended the elementary school in Kaldorf and then the agricultural vocational school in Titting. During this time, she worked in her parents’ farm.
On December 30, 1948, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother in Abenberg. During her postulancy, she was on duty in Stadelhofen (Upper Franconia) for six months.
On August 12, 1949, she received her religious dress and in her second year of novitiate she worked in Buxheim as a sister in the house and as a nurse in the kindergarten. In 1951 she made her first vows and in 1956 her final vows.
In August of 1951, as a young sister, she came to the St. Josefsheim in Deining and worked in the kitchen there for 9 years. In 1960, she was transferred to the St. Anna Home in Deining and served 6 years in this Order-owned nursing home.
From 1966, she worked in Schwabach in the hospital for infectious diseases in the kitchen and from 1976 on in the St. Stilla nursing home in Heilsbronn. When the community of the sisters at the St. Stilla nursing home in Heilsbronn was closed in 2010, Sr. Bruna returned to Abenberg and lived in the Sisters’ Residence in Abenberg until her departure on March 31, 2022.
Sr. Bruna endured her age and illness with patience. She was a very prayerful person, who loved silence and life in community. Thus, on March 30, she was still able to celebrate her 93rd birthday in the community.
The following night she went home to God.
On April 4, 2022, she was buried in the Sisters’ Cemetery; afterwards the Requiem Mass was celebrated in the Stilla Church. At the farewell, besides the sisters, Sr. Bruna Stahr’s nieces and nephews were all present at the funeral.
Rest in peace!
