Eighth Centenary of the Death of St. Francis of Assisi

Never would the Church have received a St. Francis of Assisi if it had not previously beheld a poor man.

M. Frances Streitel, Letter to Fr. Jordan 23 (79)

Francis, why does the whole world follow you?

In the Little Flowers of St. Francis, Friar Masseo asks Francis of Assisi that very question. It’s a question we can ask ourselves as well, one that surely everyone has an answer for.

Through his life, the Poverello paved a way helping us to live out the Gospel of Jesus.

St. Francis believed in God’s love and witnessed to it with joy and simplicity through daily acts of universal brotherhood, reconciliation, sharing with the poor, and selfless service.

He reminds us that we are pilgrims on a journey and that the Gospel brings joy to those who live by it.

The Eighth Centenary of his death is a special occasion to thank the Lord for the gift of the Poverello of Assisi and to let ourselves be inspired and guided by his example of a life lived according to the Gospel.

Wishing you all a happy holiday,
