Sr. M. Maurilla Renner of Our Lady of Fatima

November 19, 1936 – July 23, 2024

Sr. M. Maurilla was born on November 19, 1936 in Rottenbauer/Ufr. and lived with two siblings in Wolframs-Eschenbach for 8 years, where she also attended elementary school, and later in Frickenhausen.

At baptism she received the name Anna.

After finishing elementary school, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother in Abenberg on September 6, 1951.

There she attended the preliminary course for kindergarten education and, from September 1952, the kindergarten seminar. In 1954 she successfully passed the state examination.

On August 12, 1954, she received the habit and the name Sr. M. Maurilla. After the two-year novitiate, she made her first Profession and, on August 12, 1961, her Perpetual Vows.

On September 1, 1956, she was transferred to Bamberg-Gartenstadt, where she began her first job as a kindergarten teacher. From 1959 to 1966, she was a kindergarten teacher in Burgoberbach and then in the Gerolfing kindergarten. In August 1977, she was transferred to Vienna and worked in the order’s own kindergarten on Simmeringer Hauptstraße.

In 1981, she took part in a religious renewal course in Rome, which she wrote about in her curriculum vitae: “… this was a profound and intense time in my religious life.”

Afterwards, she resumed her job as an educator and worked in Schwabach at the St. Stilla kindergarten.

From August 1992 to 2001, she served as a kindergarten teacher at St. Jakobus in Abenberg. That was her last position as a kindergarten teacher.

She wrote: “Recently, I feel that the time is near to retire from the kindergarten teaching profession and to look for a task that I can still fulfill as an aging sister.”

After leaving the teaching profession, she worked for a time as a sacristan at Marienburg in Abenberg and in the pastoral care of the sick at Schwabach Hospital.

In 2002, Sr. Maurilla attended a course for biblical story figures with Mrs. Doris Egli and, in line with Mrs. Egli’s vision, Sr. M. Maurilla led many Egli courses with heart and soul.

In 2004, the location in Pullach was reopened and Sr. M. Maurilla proclaimed the biblical message with the Egli figures, beyond Pullach. It was important to her to bring the good news of Christ to the parishes and into people’s hearts by creating and working with the biblical story figures.

Due to illness, she had to let go of the task she had grown fond of with a heavy heart and, after a long period of suffering, moved from Pullach to the Schwesternwohnheim in Abenberg on April 6, 2024. Even during her illness, she always had an open heart and ear for friends and acquaintances. In the last few weeks, her strength decreased more and more. On July 23, 2024, she was called to her eternal home.

On July 26, Sr. M. Maurilla was buried in the sisters’ cemetery at Marienburg in Abenberg. Afterwards, the Requiem was celebrated in the Stillakirche.

The sisters, the biological sister of Sr. Maurilla and the nieces and nephews, friends and acquaintances were present.

Rest in peace!
