Sr. M. Angelina Schneider of the Holy Virgins

December 15, 1935 – October 20, 2025

Sr. M. Angelina was born on December 15, 1935, as the fourth child of Johann Schneider and his wife Maria Schneider, née Lang, in Buckendorf in the district of Lichtenfels.

She was baptised Angelina on December 15, 1935, in Stadelhofen.

From 1942 to 1950, she attended elementary school in Stadelhofen, Bamberg district.

On August 12, 1950, she entered the convent of the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother in Abenberg. In September 1950, she began training as a parament embroiderer in Munich. After three years of training, she passed her journeyman’s examination as an artistic embroiderer.

In March 1954, on St. Joseph’s Day, she was invested in the Stillakirche. After her novitiate, she took her first holy vows and in 1961 her perpetual vows.

After her novitiate, a parament embroidery was set up in Abenberg, and Sr. M. Angelina carried out her work with great dedication. Her work was appreciated far beyond Abenberg. The orders were varied: chasubles, flags, antependia, restorations.

In addition to this work, she was also the convent gatekeeper for some time and helped look after the sacristy at St. Jakobus Parish in Abenberg.

Due to her many hip operations, which also included a case of medical malpractice, she spent months in various clinics. The error could not be corrected. With great patience and perseverance, she endured the limitations and continued to practise her profession.

In recent years, due to her physical limitations, she was only able to take on small commissions, and as her eyesight deteriorated, she devoted herself to the art of bobbin lace-making.

She was not someone who wanted to be the centre of attention, but she was always delighted when her “works” were well received.

Since a fall last year, she had been in a wheelchair, which allowed her to enjoy freedom of movement and independence.

After a short illness, she passed away peacefully in the Schwesternwohnheim on Monday, October 20, 2025.

She was buried on October 22, 2025, in the sisters’ cemetery at Marienburg in Abenberg. Her nieces and nephews, friends and acquaintances were able to say their goodbyes. After the funeral, we celebrated the requiem in the Stillakirche.

Rest in peace!
